World IP Day 2020 - Innovate for a green future

Every April 26, the China IPR SME Helpdesk joins the celebration of the World Intellectual Property Day to promote the role that intellectual property rights (IPR) play in encouraging innovation and creativity.

This year, the World IP Day 2020 celebrates innovation and the IPR that support it in the creation of a green future. Why? Because the choices we make today will shape our tomorrow. The earth is our home, and we need to care for it.

We proudly celebrate all the inspiring inventors and creators around the world who are leading us towards a greener future and who are using the IP system to support their work and its uptake in society. But how can a balanced and robust IP system contribute to the emergence of a green economy?

Patent systems foster innovation and the development of eco-friendly technologies that enable us to tackle the climate crisis and build a green future.

Design patents support the optimal use of resources and enable designers to invest their talent in creating useful, attractive and eco-friendly products.

Trademarks and other identifiers support the emergence and growth of businesses built on principles of environmental sustainability, enabling them to offer a broader range of eco-friendly products and services.

Geographical Indications are encouraging more sustainable natural resource use and plant-breeding rights are promoting the development of more resilient crops in support of global food security.

Copyright can allow creators to live from their work and empower their vision of a green future.

By assisting EU SMEs in their IP management, the China IPR SME Helpdesk believes in the power of innovation and endorses an IP-driven green future.
