07 September Webinar – Protecting your Inventions Abroad: Understanding the IP Landscape of Latin America, China and South-East Asia

The webinar gave  an overview to the EU SMES about the most convenient legal mechanisms to protect and exploit their inventions in the Chinese, South-East Asian and Latin American markets. How much time and money it would take or when can they start commercializing their products – these are the most persisting questions for the SMEs that were answered by our Intellectual Property experts during the webinar.

SMEs were also provided with the best tips and watch-outs to bear in mind before, during and after entering the markets in those territories.

Moreover, any queries that the EU companies had, were solved by the experts conducting the training session.

The webinar focused on: Giving an overview of Patents and Utility Models, including patentability requirements and patent costs; providing detailed overview on how to register your patents and utility models in China, South-East Asia and Latin America; how to benefit from international patent registering systems like Paris Convention and Patent Cooperation Treaty; and when can companies start exploiting their inventions. 

 

29 August Webinar – IP Protection in China’s Retail Industry

The webinar provided  the European SMEs with practical advice on how to protect their IP in China's retail industry.  Our China IPR SME Helpdesk IPR expert Ms. Rainy Liu gave  the European SMEs an overview of brand protection possibilities in China including practicalities like how to register trade marks and design patents and how to enforce the rights these registrations confer on IP owners. Ms. Liu used  numerous case studies to illustrate how the European SMEs can protect their brand in China.  Following points were covered during the webinar: the participants were given a comprehensive overview on trade mark and design patent requirements and registration;  Ms. Liu gave practical tips on how to create the best IP enforcement  strategy in retail sector in China; Ms. Liu also gave practical advice on how to deal with counterfeiting, bad faith trade mark registrations and IP infringement on e-commerce platforms; the expert illustrated her presentation with real-life examples of European SMEs experiencing and overcoming IP related issues in China's retail sector.

 

17 August Webinar – How to Identify and Deal with IP Scams in China?

The webinar will provide practical advice for the European SMEs on how to identify IP scams in China and how to deal with these scams.  Our China IPR SME Helpdesk IPR expert Mr. Michele Ferrante  will give the European SMEs an overview of the well-known IP scams like ‘threat from the third party’ scams or ‘fee cheating’ scams used by the unscrupulous Chinese companies/entities to extort money from the European SMEs. Mr. Ferrante will explain how to identify these potential scams and will advise the European SMEs on how to find correct IP-related information about China.

08 August Webinar – Arbitration in IP Matters in China and South-East Asia

The webinar will provide practical advice for European SMEs who are experiencing IP infringements either or both in China and South-East Asia and wish to use arbitration as a form of IP litigation. Our IPR SME Helpdesk IPR expert Mr. Philippe Girard-Foley will give an overview of what SMEs should know about arbitration in IP matters in China and South-East Asia. The expert will explain how the arbitration procedure works and how SMEs can use the arbitration in the region to resolve their IPR infringement issues. The IPR Expert will use several case-studies in order to illustrate the arbitration procedure and its benefits to the SMEs.

The internet has become a popular and easy channel for product distribution around the world. It has created a marketplace of more than half a billion users in China, more than a third of the world’s total online population, and is still expanding. Apart from being a forum for legitimate vendors and original products, the internet is also used by illegal and unscrupulous businesses as a platform for the distribution of counterfeit goods which infringe intellectual property rights (IPR). It is important that European SME’s monitor sites for instances of infringement. In this webinar the China IPR SME Helpdesk expert Christine Liu provides information about the regulations governing e-commerce and a practical introduction on how to remove infringing products.
