Together with InnovateUK, the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise Europe Network the China IPR SME Helpdesk is organising is organising a training to raise awareness of the importance on IP. Our Team Leader Simon Cheetham will be present to give a training and will be avaiilable for 1-on-1 consultations. Doing Business in China is both an excit-ing and vibrant experience for many, offering prospects for business which range from the design and manufac-ture of new products, right through to research, develop-ment and collaboration on joint initiatives. However, while China can offer these incredible opportunities for advancement, working in this market with new and inno-vative products can be a challenge. The 12th Plenary Meeting of the European Technology Transfer Offices (TTO) CIRCLE took place in Dublin, on 04 and 05 July 2019. This event was organised by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in collaboration with Teagasc, the Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority.


Specifically, participants were invited to discuss topics of common interest, share good practices, knowledge and expertise, and to seek to identify and develop collaborative activities. 


The meeting was structured in the following main sessions:


  1. technology transfer in food and agriculture sector
  2. technology transfer and China: challenges, opportunities and barriers
  3. Corporate Venturing: what are the keys? 
  4. technology transfer and State Aid

China IPR SME Helpdesk Team Leader Simon Cheetham participated in the second session to discuss the current IP landscape in China and highlight issues of pertinence to technology transfer.

    About the IP expert


    Simon Cheetham is the Team Leader of the China IPR SME Helpdesk. He is a China IPR Enforcement expert with over 30 years' experience in commercial investigations, due diligence and IPR enforcement in China and internationally. He has lived and worked in China and South-East Asia for over 17 years. He is also the Managing Director of ERINYES INTERNATIONAL LTD, a firm he founded to capitalise on his extensive experience of international investigations, loss prevention and enforcement work. He manages and directs the operations of the Company from Europe to the Far East.


    Simon began his career with the Hong Kong Police, where he was responsible for the detection and prosecution of a wide variety of crimes, including fraud and homicide. While in South-East Asia Simon was Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce Intellectual Property Committee and acted as an advisor to the International Anti-Counterfeiting Task Force on China. He has lectured frequently around the world on security issues and IPR and has written articles and papers on a variety of related topics, including a chapter in 'Intellectual Property Law and Practice in the People's Republic of China' published by Kluwer Law International B.V. He is fluent in English and Cantonese.

    Danish IP Fair

    On May 8th 2019, the Danish IP Fair will once again open its doors at the Confederation of Danish Industry to bring together researchers, entrepreneurs, investors and industry professionals for a 1-day matchmaking event. The Danish IP Fair will showcase 80 cases as spin-out investment or licensing opportunities in an open fair environment, and facilitate up to 450 pre-scheduled partnering meetings where investors and industry professionals have the opportunity to discuss business and match make with entrepreneurs and researchers. The cases will range from presenting frontier technology to being IP based start-ups.


    There will also have keynote debates about Denmark’s new early funding landscape and fireplace interviews about investment experiences.
